General Information
  • Artists can apply from any stage of their careers and from any nation.
  • There are no geographical nor thematic limitations to artwork submissions.
  • Approximately 300-400 artists will be selected from all around the world purely on the basis of the artwork submitted.
  • No biographical information is required albeit artist statements related to the submitted work can be sent with submissions.
  • There is a submission fee of £36 GBP for each artwork submitted.
  • Submission Deadline: 31st May 2023 11.59pm GMT
  • If an artist is accepted there are no subsequent participation fees.
  • The exhibition will take place from the 26th to the 30th of July 2023.
  • All exhibited work has to be approved by the London Art Biennale Selection committee.
  • Approved artists are invited to attend the Biennale inauguration with guests but there is no actual requirement for artists to be personally present during the Biennale.
  • An artist can apply with one or more artworks but each artwork will be judged individually.
  • Accepted artistic disciplines are not restricted and include works on canvas/ board/ paper/ other supports, mediums such as oil/ acrylic/ collage/ watercolours/ mixed medias, photography, digital art (including AI assisted art), video art, sculpture, fibre art and installation.

  • £5,000 GBP London Art Biennale Award
  • £1,500 GBP London Art Biennale Award for Painting
  • £1,500 GBP London Art Biennale Award for Sculpture/Installation
  • £1,500 GBP London Art Biennale Award for Works on Paper
  • £1,500 GBP London Art Biennale Awards for Digital Work/Video
  • 25 artists to be selected and pre-approved for the Chianciano Biennale 2024 organised by the Chianciano Art Museum, Tuscany, Italy
  • Art Critique by the International Confederation of Art Critics for 5 artists

Copyright & Social Media Permission
  • The London Biennale is a celebration of art and our purpose is to promote art. Therefore, permission for the posting of artworks on social media and for press publication is automatically granted by an artist when an artwork is submitted.
  • Images of works will be chosen and published on our social medias to promote the exhibition.
  • Please note that we can only post some, not all, artwork submissions on socials and that artworks published on our social medias during the selection process are not automatically approved for the exhibition.
  • All artists that are subsequently approved for the Biennale also agree for their work to be published on our printed catalogue for the 2023 edition of the London Art Biennale.

Sales
  • Exhibited artworks do not need to be for sale, it is the artist’s choice and artworks can be exhibited as “not for sale”.
  • For artworks that are for sale, prices and information will be available with the London Biennale staff via professional and experienced sales staff.
  • The London Art Biennale retains 30% commission on sales during the exhibition with which we include payment processing, logistics (such as delivery/installation of artwork to London) and assistance. Any private sales after the Biennale are not subject to commission.

Printed & Online Catalogue
  • Each artist will have one A4 page with one work published in the hardcopy publication
  • Artworks and artist details will be published on the London Biennale website indefinitely
  • Hardback copies of the catalogues can be purchased online by participating artists with a 10% discount.
  • Hardback catalogues will be available for purchase at the Biennale and on our website.

Application Fee
  • There is an application fee for the London Art Biennale of £36 GBP per artwork submitted.
  • The fee covers admin costs and is non-refundable regardless of the outcome of the selection process.
  • Once an artwork is accepted for exhibition there, are no other fees for artists.

Curatorial Study
  • All artworks are hung and curated by the Biennale team.
  • All artworks on canvas, panel or paper must be gallery stretched or appropriately framed/mounted and ready to hang with string, hooks or other hanging fixtures.

Artwork Transport
  • Artworks can be shipped in advance to a designated address or delivered by hand directly to the venue. We will send the designated shipping address in due course.
  • To reduce transport costs, there is also the option to send canvases/works on paper rolled so that they can be stretched/framed locally (costs of stretching and framing apply for this option).
  • Transport and related costs are the responsibility of the artist.
  • After the exhibition ends, artwork must be collected / collection must be organised within 8 weeks of an artist being informed that the artwork is ready for pickup.
  • Artworks that are not collected within 8-weeks are donated to charity, local hospitals, nursing homes or other care giving institutions.

How to Apply
  • Submissions can be made personally by artists or on behalf of artists
  • Applicants receive an email with instructions (a Submission Certificate) on how to send artwork images and details. If you do not receive our email within 24 hours please check your spam and then message us on WhatsApp, call us or email us from our contact page
  • There is a submission fee of £36 GBP for each artwork submitted and there are no subsequent participation fees.
  • Artists can enter the selection process and send artwork images anytime before the 31st of May 2023.
