Viktoria Villanyi is a mixed-media artist, art historian and lawyer. Viktoria recently exhibited paintings and 3D mixed media works in contemporary group shows in Madrid, Spain. Her works range from semi-abstracts with powerful spatial compositions, to surrealist, introspective landscapes of the mind. She combines painting with figurative sculptural elements or geometric, architectural forms built of industrial materials such as copper and wood.
Viktoria’s art is inspired by people’s ancient beliefs in natural elements, such as water, the sun, earth, and the energy they convey. In her semi-abstract, surrealist works she captures and reflects on this unique elemental power, our spiritual relation to nature, to our ancestry, to animals and the surrounding natural world. She reflects on humans’s search in nature for the supernatural truth that surpasses mere reason and logic.She combines graphic and architectural vision, and makes use of the expressive power and energies of cold and warm materials, metal, wood, fur, and the various textures of paint.
Viktoria is native to Hungary, but besides her current residence in Hungary she has also lived in Boston, USA and in Barcelona, Spain.As a native Hungarian, her experience of travels and research on various cultural communities in both Europe and Latin America shaped Viktoria’s perception and understanding of the legacy of ancient cultural values and the imprints of tradition in contemporary culture. She studied contemporary arts and art theory at the Sterling&Francine Clark Art Institute, USA. In New York she had the chance to work with Latin American contemporary art and collaborate with contemporary artists.Preceding her studies of art she also earned a BA at Harvard University in Iberian and Latin American literature and history.
