LAND/SCAPE

The way that we see the landscape is influenced by our own culture, our own experiences, and our own imagination. It is a reminder that the landscape is not simply a physical space, but also a cultural construct, and that it is up to us to decide how we want to see.

The works in the exhibition all offer unique perspectives on the landscape, and they all play with the different meanings of the word "landscape." Some of the works in the exhibition focus on the physical features; these works explore the way that the landscape can be seen as a physical object, what we call here LAND.

Other works focus on the cultural meaning of the landscape. These works explore the way that the landscape can be seen as a representation of our own culture, our own values, and our own history. On that theme, some works in the exhibition focus on the imaginative possibilities of the landscape. These works explore the way that the landscape can be seen as a place of dreams, of fantasy, and of possibility, more imaginary, being and extensive view, exploring the emotional or psychological dimensions of it, the SCAPE.

In this exhibition we can differ from two sections: "Inside" and "Outside". The "Inside" section features works that depict landscapes that are enclosed or confined, such as rooms, interiors, and cityscapes. The "Outside" section features works that depict landscapes that are open and expansive, such as forests, mountains, and oceans. However the public cannot always identify what’s "Real or Not?" These works challenge our traditional understanding of landscape and invite us to consider new ways of seeing the world, being Land and Scape.

The common thread of both landscapes perspectives is the present: even when in memory, the image becomes present at that moment. When we look at a landscape, we are not just seeing a record of the past, but we are also seeing the present moment, the way that the landscape looks and feels right now. This is because our memories are not static. They are constantly being updated with new information, so that the landscape that we remember is always changing.
